In December, Albert Einstein Academy’s fourth and fifth graders truly shared the light of Chanukah when they visited members of Jewish Family Services’ Memory Cafe—a welcoming space where people living with dementia and those who care for them come together to socialize and connect. The students taught attendees about Chanukah, performed a Chanukah skit, and joined in activities and conversation. They also filled the room with music, singing original Chanukah songs—including the poignant “Light Song,” which was written by Albert Einstein Academy’s music teacher, Rachel Greenspan. The visit was deeply meaningful for the students as well, with one student declaring it “the best Chanukah celebration we’ve ever done!” Through sharing stories, music, and time together, our students showed that Jewish values are not just taught, they are lived.
