Delaware Jewish Community Hosts Statewide Candidates Forum

by Alex

On Thursday, September 12, 2024 the biennial tradition of the first statewide candidates forum occurred, hosted  by the Jewish Community Relations Committee and the  Wilmington Chapter of Hadassah. For the first time, the forum  sessions were divided between State and Federal offices, rather than  presenting all of the candidates on the dais together.  The first panel included candidates for Governor, Lieutenant  Governor, and Insurance Commissioner. The second panel included  candidates for U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. The  separate panels allowed candidates to dive deeper into questions  pertaining to their offices. In particular, for the federal panel, both  Senate and House candidates could engage in all the questions. All of  the positions, except for Insurance Commissioner, are guaranteed new  office holders because of retirements, term-limits, and office changes. What cannot be overlooked or taken for granted is that it is us, the Jewish community of Delaware and the Brandywine Valley who hosts  this event for all of the statewide candidates. Although the Jewish  community is quite small compared to other communities in this  state, due to our involvement and advocacy, the candidates know that  this forum is not one to miss. Also, as politics becoming increasingly  partisan, our forum is the ONLY one of the general election in which  candidates from all parties attend and participate.

In order to ensure that candidates and elected officials continue  to show up for this crucial event, our community MUST continue to  build and maintain relationships across party lines and up-and-down  the state. We should never take for granted that these candidates and  elected officials will show up for our community.

On behalf of the Jewish Community Relations Committee of  Delaware and the Wilmington Chapter of Hadassah, thank you for your  continued support of this forum, our elected officials, and candidates
